I started the Assured Resume blog to share some of the knowledge I’ve learned over the past 30 years working with resumes. This was firstly as an Information Technology manager, secondly running an Information Technology / Engineering staffing firm and thirdly running a resume writing division.
While I’m confident that I have a lot of knowledge to share I also realize that I have a lot to learn. To that end, I’m starting a new series of interviews called “Resume Impact.” In these interviews I will talk with leaders in various industries who play a key role reviewing resumes and hiring candidates. I’m curious what their perspective is on what they like to see and what they dislike. How important is the resume format? What drives them crazy and what makes them pick up the phone to call the candidate on the spot.
I’m curious what trends I will find:
- Will some industries care more or less about certain aspects of the resume?
- How much of a role do Applicant Tracking Systems play in ranking an applicant?
- Do some firms like to see color, humor, graphics in a resume while others do not?
- What I’m really curious about is how well do my “rules” of what is right in constructing a resume stand up in the real world.
I’m excited to find out and share what I learn. Look for blog posts that start with “Resume Impact” followed by the name of the company I’m interviewing. This should be fun!
